Exceptional result for Jeremy Barnett in largest ARP case at SDT

The SDT recently heard a case involving the largest ARP and run off cover in which there had been a default on record. No payments had been made towards the total due of approximately £2m following the Adminstration of Sheffield firm, AMS Law.

High Court Judge describes sanction as an ‘appeal against sentence’

In a recent appeal against a decision of the Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal, the Judge began by describing the process as an ‘appeal against sentence’. Although this was an introductory remark, no doubt intended to set the scene, it flys in the face of a long line of judicial authority that distinguishes disciplinary proceedings from criminal allegations, and ignores the fundamental difference in approach in the two jurisdictions.

High Court Sends sanction case back to SDT| SRA Lawyer

Jeremy Barnett MBL lecture on Interventions and SRA internal hearings

Jeremy Barnett is joining a group of distinguished speakers for an MBL conference on SRA Regulation and Professional Conduct. He will be dealing with the difficult subject of interventions, where the Law Society decide to close down a law firm where they have reason to suspect dishonesty or other serious conduct breaches. 

He will also be covering appeals against internal SRA decisions, and appeals against those decisions.

Jeremy Barnett to speak at major SRA and Blockchain events

Jeremy Barnett is speaking at the MBL conference on SRA Regulation and Professional Conduct on November 19th in London. He is covering the topic of Interventions and other internal SRA regulatory hearings. 

He is also speaking on Blockchain regulation and policy at the Barcelona Blockchain Solutions World event on October 16th, where he is dealing with the topic ‘ How disruptive technologies are transforming the built environment’. 

In addition, Jeremy will be addressing an informal meeting of the Sheffield Legal Hackers, which is part of the Global Hackers movement. Jeremy will again cover the use of blockchain solutions in conjunction with AI and IOT for the construction sector, and also developments in the law of algorithms.
