The Trading Standards Insitute have today warned that deep cuts in the budgets for Trading Standards services have resulted in a massive reduction in the services provided to protect consumers.

On 30 June 2009 the new Toy Safety Directive, Directive 2009/48/EC was published. It substantially amends the old Directive across virtually all safety aspects. It fulfils to the highest level the newest health and safety standards. It is aimed at simplying the current legislative framework and increasing quality and efficiency. It deals with warnings, 19 products not considered toys, chemical requirements and new tests aimed at claimping down on rogue Far Eastern Manufacturers.

Watchdog this evening will launch a campaign to tighten up the laws relating to the sale of children’s costumes, following a catastrophic injury to Claudia Winkleman’s eight year old daughter who was burned whilst wearing a witches costume which brushed past a candle at a Halloween party last year.
Calls to change the law to ‘close a loophole’ may be premature.√جª¬ø
